Saint George arrives in Sydney

As reported earlier, much lauded chef and director of JRM Hospitality (and former Becasse star) James Metcalfe has opened the doors to his new venue Saint George. Sitting in central Broadway, the 120 square-metre bar and eatery is focused on all-day dining, with a breakfast offering as well as plenty of vino to choose from come night fall. Comfortably seating 45, Saint George will be open seven days a week until late. While primarily a restaurant, the space will shortly also offer a separate events space dubbed George’s Garage which is set to open next month.

The fare

The menu is focused around the contemporary with strong seasonal influence evident. On the lunch and dinner menu you’ll find the likes of caramelised pigs head served with spiced pineapple and star anise emulsion, Thirlmere chicken liver parfait with rhubarb and hazelnut, smoked wagyu brisket hash, fried eggs and house chilli ketchup, and butter roasted pumpkin, ricotta, capers, sultanas and pine nuts. For those with less time to kill, you’ll also find more casual offerings including an array of fresh salads and toasted sandwiches.

The mantra

With coffee, booze, and dishes that range from light to hearty, there’s something to suit everyone says James Metcalfe. “We’re delighted to open the doors of Saint George – our latest venue in the JRM stable which offers the local community a quick, causal and easy eatery by day and as dusk settles, we turn up the music and the venue’s neatly transformed in to a quirky, fun wine bar, with food to Match,” he says. “Serving coffee and booze for the working class – and everything in-between – Saint George is the go-to destination to treat the palette and soul and is set to become the Saint of George street!”
